TOPEKA METRO PROVIDES SHUTTLES FOR SPIRIT OF KANSAS

Topeka, Kansas (June 28, 2017) —The Spirit of Kansas Festival, including the 21st year of the fireworks display, is set for July 4, 2017, at Lake Shawnee. Topeka Metro buses will provide transportation shuttles this year.

Parking will be available at the Rueger Sports Complex (2801 S. Kansas Ave.) Topeka Metro buses will begin boarding passengers at 6 p.m. from Rueger Sports Complex to Lake Shawnee. PLEASE NOTE: We WILL NOT be staging buses on the east side of White Lakes mall as we have done in the past. We want to make sure the public knows this so they do not miss out!  Boy Scouts from Jayhawk Area Council will direct traffic for patrons who drive their own vehicles to the lake. Signs will also mark free parking areas. Access a map of the parking here. There is NO COST to ride the shuttle bus on July 4th.

While some 40,000 people including those in surrounding neighborhoods are expected to watch the fireworks show, approximately 15,000 people are expected to be in the lake area.

Everyone is encouraged to be patient and follow directions when departing after the fireworks show. In general, those on the east side of the lake will be directed to the east to Croco Road to exit the lake area and those on the west side will be directed to exit the lake area to the west.
