Mask Mandate Extended to May 3, 2022

TOPEKA, Kansas (April 14, 2022) -- At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation, the Transportation Security Administration will extend the security directive for mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs until May 3, 2022. The previous mask mandate was set to expire on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Federal law continues to require that all persons must properly wear face masks while riding on Topeka Metro buses and while in the Quincy Street Station. Failure to comply will result in denial of boarding or removal and may result in penalties.

“Although it seems that cases of COVID-19 are going down, there have been reports of highly contagious variants, so we welcome the extension for the sake of everyone's health and safety," said Bob Nugent, Topeka Metro general manager. "We will have signage in the Quincy Street lobby and post information on our website and social media channels to remind everyone. We appreciate the cooperation of our passengers with this mandate and ask for help sharing the extension information."
