MOD discontinued as of May 30, 2026. Board voted 5/18/26.
TOPEKA, KANSAS (May 19, 2026) -- The Topeka Metro Board of Directors voted unanimously at its May 18, 2026 meeting to discontinue the MOD (Metro On-Demand) service, with the final day of operation set for Saturday, May 30.
Launched on January 30, 2023, MOD serves the southeast Topeka as a shared-ride, zone-based service. Fares increased from $2 to $6 in August 2025, but low ridership made the service fiscally unsustainable, with operating costs reaching $150 per ride.
Topeka Metro held two public meetings in the zoned area (April 16 and April 21, 2026) at the Deer Creek Community Center, and no one from the public came before the Board when it made its final decision on May 18, 2026. Riders can continue using fixed-route service in southeast Topeka, and the Topeka Metro Lift/Paratransit service remains unchanged.
