“Stuff the Bus” for Hunger Relief April 4

TOPEKA, KAN. (February 11, 2026) – Topeka Metro, in partnership with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local #1360, will host its annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., benefiting Project Topeka and local hunger-relief agencies.

This long-standing collaboration brings together Topeka Metro employees and union bus operators with one shared goal: helping neighbors in need. Community members are invited to donate canned goods, non-perishable food items, or make monetary contributions at the Dillons store in Fairlawn Plaza, located at 5311 SW 22nd Place. Volunteers will be stationed at store entryways throughout the event.

One hundred percent of all food and financial donations will support individuals and families facing food insecurity in Topeka and Shawnee County. Contributions collected during the drive benefit seven Project Topeka partner agencies: Doorstep, Inc.; Fellowship & Faith Ministries, Inc.; I-Care, Inc.; Let’s Help; The Salvation Army; Topeka North Outreach; and the Topeka Rescue Mission.

In previous years, the community’s generosity has resulted in nearly 2,500 pounds of food and up to $400 in monetary donations collected in a single day. We would like to break that record, and it could be up to Topekans helping us! All food and funds gathered during the 2026 event will be delivered directly to Project Topeka immediately following the drive.

“Stuff the Bus” is more than a food drive—it’s a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to care for its own. Topeka Metro and ATU Local 1360 encourage residents to stop by, donate if they’re able, and help make a difference for children, adults, and seniors right here at home.

Let’s fill the bus and help feed our community.
