Stuff the Bus for Project Topeka gathers 2,500 lbs of food

TOPEKA, KANSAS (February 6, 2023) -- On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Topeka Metro employees and the Amalgamated Transit Union #1360 (ATU) members were on site at Dillons Fairlawn to gather non-perishable food items and monetary donations to benefit Project Topeka - a Community Food Drive.

Stuff the Bus was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the entryway of Dillons. A total of 2,500 lbs. of food filled the bus, and $400 in donations were collected. In the last seven years, the most collected was 2,272 lbs, so we beat our record from 2020!

Stuff the Bus has been in existence since 1986, between the ATU and Topeka Metro. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event had been cancelled in 2021 and 2022. We thank everyone who donated food items or money, all the volunteers, and those who helped spread the word. We are happy to help our community. All donations stay within Topeka.
